My impressions of Lolita ~ the movie

After watching the clips of Stanley Kubrick's Lolita in class, I decided it would be fun to watch the whole movie. The novel definitely has more layers and texture than the film, however, I did enjoy the film.

One thing that struck me in the film was how forward and suggestively Lolita acted towards Humbert. I know he claims in the novel that she seduced him, but in the book and my imagination, it seemed to be more just Humbert's impression and not the 'truth' of the events. I think I had this impression because Humbert is an unreliable narrator. Seeing Lolita as the seductress, liar, and sneak didn't fit my own interpretation of the story when I read the novel. Still, it was fun to see the film version.
